Hiking and Biking Trails

The Redstone arsenal trail system consists of approximately 32 miles of natural surface trails on Madkin and Weeden mountains which are available for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running.

The trails on the Madkin side can be accessed at the quarry near the intersection of Neal and Marshall roads, or at a small parking lot off Neal road between Burose road and the arsenal greenway. The Weeden trails are accessible from the Fox health center, the RV park, and Vincent park.  Both sets of trails can also be readily accessed from the Madkin mountain gravel road off Shillelagh Cir.

The plateau figure eight, consisting of both the Madkin and Weeden level loop trails, is a popular and beginner-friendly route.  Those looking for more of an elevation challenge can do the Madkin climb from Mercury trail to Gemini to Artemis, cresting where the gravel road meets the powerline cut, or take a direct path up (or down) the Weeden mountain powerline trail affectionately known as MOAB.

A trip to the trails will provide an opportunity to see interesting limestone formations, native plants and wildflowers, and wildlife to include owls, turkey, and foxes.
